GospelGigs community's rapid rise to serve an entire music genre
Just two years since its launch, the GospelGigs online community has become to Southern Gospel music what Slashdot is to IT pros or what LinkedIn means to business networking. As a music genre that grew out of the old Gospel quartet tradition, Southern Gospel groups and fans are like a very big family. And GospelGigs.com, built and maintained by Optimal Process, keeps more than 7,000 "family members" in constant touch, especially about upcoming gigs. At present, more than 1,500 different groups have set up pages on GospelGigs, where they publish tour schedules, new music (via built-in MP3 players) and news about themselves. On the business side, more than 200 promoters and performance venues are active in the community. The site clocks 75,000 visits a month, mostly by fans using the search engine to locate upcoming performances (searching by group name or by Zip code). More than 7,000 die-hard fans have registered to receive customized, weekly e-mail updates about upcoming Gospel performances in their immediate area.
